American Girl theme was created around the 4th of July! I love creating themes around the holidays! I have a small collection of props that I bring, which included, sparklers, pinwheels, hats, scarves, necklaces, sunglasses, and anything red, white and blue. I also have found some fun sparkler overlays that I like to use while I’m editing, because why not?
These shoots are best done in fields and anything around water. We used different areas at the Ionia Fair Grounds and Ionia State Recreational Park for this year’s American Girl theme. I personally favor green areas and wide open fields with a line of trees. They really help make the sparkler overlays pop. Unless we’re shooting with an overcast sky, the overlay can easily blend into the skyline.
The student models were given this Pinterest Board to help with their outfits. I love giving them the option to give them a visual of what we’re going for because the outfits really pull the themed shoots together. This year’s group really nailed the outfits for the American Girl theme! They even wore shirts with stars!
